A Day Trip Along Hot Springs Village's DeSoto Boulevard
Desoto is the central vein of this bustling community. Its moniker is a nod to explorer Hernando de Soto, who was among the first to pass through what's now HSV. And it’s a perfectly appropriate name, as it’s the passage on which today's visitors explore the Village's attractions.
1. Balboa Beach
480 Ponce De Leon
Divert off DeSoto Boulevard down Ponce De Leon Drive for water activities on Lake Balboa — the sand swim beach is great for sunbathing, picnicking and people watching. While you’re at the lake, join a Basecamp paddleboard or kayak activity. Lake passes are required for visitors.
2. Golf Galore
Take your pick from nine courses, all of which can be reached from DeSoto Boulevard. There’s Granada, which Golf Digest recently ranked among the top 10 in Arkansas, or Isabella, which was dubbed Arkansas’ No. 1 in the same Golf Digest list. Ponce De Leon was opened by PGA pro John Daly; Magellan is known for its fantastic practice facilities; and the other village courses all have distinctions worth experiencing.
3. Live Music & Farmers Market
1105 DeSoto Blvd.
Visitors love the live outdoor musical performances held at Grove Park — the Rock Porch Sessions, which feature some of the best touring singer-songwriters and bands from all over the country (first Saturdays from April to October). The park is also home to Green Market, a local farmers market held on Thursdays from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. during the growing season.
4. Sweat, Swim & Spa
151 Ponderosa Way
No trip to The Village is complete without a game of tennis — it’s known for the Coronado Tennis Center. The 13-court complex boasts 10 clay courts, United States Tennis Association-certified teaching professionals, a lounge and pavilion. Visitors are welcome to play; call (501) 922-5054 to reserve court time. After your match, consider a massage at the adjacent fitness center, or a dip in its indoor heated pool that looks out onto Lake Coronado.
5. An Arts Hub
1101 DeSoto Blvd.
Visit Woodlands Auditorium during your stay. The 654-seat theater hosts more than 75 cultural and entertainment events, including Broadway-style musicals.
