Here are some of the top spots for hiking and mountain biking in the Spa City.

Mountain Biking that Attracts the World

The Hot Springs area is home to so many mountain biking systems, including three International Mountain Bicycling Associate Ride Centers (IMBA). IMBA Epic trails are a designation for only the truest backcountry riding experiences; these rides are typically challenging and scenic. Here are a few of the most notable rides in the region, appealing to all skill levels:

IMBA EPIC Trails

  • The LOViT is an advanced-difficulty trail, offering about 40 miles of shoreline and ridge-top riding. It’s a popular trail for both mountain bikers and distance runners. Hikers welcome too.
  • The Ouachita National Recreational Trail is one of the top choices for thrill-seekers.
  • The Womble Trail is the most famous in Arkansas. This Ouachita Mountain trek is mostly made up of loose rock with occasional areas of hard-packed dirt.

More Memorable Rides

  • Cedar Glades Trails: Spanning 432 acres of scenic cedar forest, offering 10 miles of moderate-to-easy loop trails with fun descents, short climbs, bridges, and creek crossings.
  • Iron Mountain Trail: Spanning 24 miles on the south shore of Lake DeGray, offering a mix of switchbacks and occasional rock gardens across its three interconnected trails.
  • Northwoods Trails: Voted Arkansas' No. 1 trail system by Outside Magazine and Arkansas Times, the 44.6-mile (and still growing!) system offers 16 miles of diverse terrain just minutes from downtown. For expert riders, enjoy a jump with a 24-foot clearance!

Memorable Hikes in the Area

Hot Springs is nestled within the Ouachita Mountains beside rivers and lakes, so is it any wonder that hiking is a must during your stay? Most of the aforementioned trails are for hikers too, but here are other popular hikes to trek:

Goat Rock Trail (1.1 miles)
Unique geological formations and scenic views of the Ouachita Mountains. After rain, springs and creeks cross the trail.

West Mountain Loop (3.3 miles)
A loop around West Mountain offering rocky outcroppings, scenic views of downtown Hot Springs

Sunset Trail (13-18 miles)
A scenic loop around Hot Springs National Park. The full hike can take 6-8 hours, covering West Mountain and connecting several other trails, including Gulpha Gorge.

Entergy Park Trail System (2.8 miles)
Features nine trails, including the Lakefront Trail with lake views, the North Loop for walkers and bikers, and the Wildlife Observation Trail. Short but scenic trails are suitable for various activities and skill levels.

Hot Springs Creek Greenway Trail (4 miles)
A paved, ADA-accessible trail running parallel to Hot Springs Creek, ideal for walking, biking and rollerblading. Passes several city landmarks and offers scenic views.

Northwoods Trails (<30 miles)
A diverse system of trails near downtown Hot Springs, with routes through woodlands, lakes and creeks. Popular for hiking, and even more so for mountain biking, with stunning lake views.

Falls Branch Trail (1.7 miles)

Lake Ouachita Vista Trail (LOViT) (<40 miles)
While it’s primarily known for mountain biking, LOViT is equally rewarding for hikers seeking more rugged backcountry. Hikers will be treated to breathtaking views, including the Hickory Nut Mountain Overlook, and creek crossings that may require getting your feet wet.
